Fern is an approximately 25 year old mare that came to us back in September 2020.
Fern also came from the Stroud Kill Pen. She foaled prematurely on the lot the morning we rescued her. Her colt, Lucky, held on for 24hours, but unfortunately lost his fight.
Fern was malnourished, and had several wounds. She also suffered an allergic reaction to insects at out quarantine facility. She has now improved, but still needs to gain a bit of weight. She will be available for adoption as soon as she does.
Cupcake is a 5-6 year old pony mare that came from an auction. She had been run through numerous auctions, based on the number of auction stickers layered on her rump. She is still very wary of people, but is getting better.
Cupcake has now been adopted by a fellow horse rescuer. I know she will flourish in her new home.
Update: Unfortunately we have received some upsetting news. Cupcake suffered from a suspected dental abscess rupture and did not survive. We are incredibly heartbroken.
Applejack is the first horse we rescued here at Twisted Oaks. She’s is about 10 years old, and was strictly used as a broodmare. She was in terrible condition when she first arrived, but has now flourished and is a beautiful healthy mare!
Applejack will remain with us as our ambassador mare 😊
Rosalie came to us from the Durant kill lot. She was heavy in foal when she arrived. On November 22, 2020, she gave birth to an adorable, healthy jenny foaled that we named Journey.
Both are doing well here, and will be available for adoption as soon as Journey has been weaned.
5/7/21: Journey has now been weaned, and has been adopted! She will be going to her new home very soon!
Rosalie is now available for adoption. Her adoption fee is $400. Anyone interested in Rosalie can submit an application, which can be found on our website under Adoption Process.
Update 6/4/21 Rosalie has been adopted! She now has a wonderful home with some new goat buddies!
Paisley is an approximately 15 year old donkey Jenny. She came to use from the Stroud Kill Pen. When she arrived her front hooves were in terrible condition. We are slowly working to correct her hooves. She is a bit nervous, but getting better every day.
Rogue is a 4 year old paint mare that came to use from the Stroud Kill Lot. She is now at a healthy weight, but is very skittish around people. We are now clicker training her to try to get her to accept human contact. We will update as she progresses.
Lexi is an 8 year old mare that came to us from the Stroud Kill Lot after having been bailed by angel donors. LexI came in with another mare we named Keely. She was believed to have been bred, but fortunately that was not the case. She did have a heavy internal parasite load and was a bit underweight. She is now a very healthy girl and could possibly be up for adoption.
Keely came to us from the Stroud Kill Pen with Lexi after being bailed by angel donors. Keely looks to have been a former halter horse. She does have some issues with her front fetlocks that appear to have been an injury of some sort. Keely is also currently underweight, but slowly starting to gain. She will never be sound for riding, but would be a good companion mare. We will post updates as she continues to improve.
Misty is a 21 year old mare that came to us with her week old colt, Whiskey. Misty was taken in at the end of the year by a kind gentleman that saved her from going to the kill pen. Misty was heavy bred and foaled at the end of March. This gentleman was not able to keep Misty and her colt, so he reached out to us for help. We were happy to do so! We picked them both up on April 9th and got them settled in. Misty is a very protective mother and takes great care of Whiskey. She is underweight, so we are working on slowly increasing her feed intake.
We will continue to update.
